IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

The Cyprus Maritime Academy and INTERCOLLEGE continuing to participate in an immediate and responsible manner in the efforts to prevent and contain the new coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, would like to inform the students and their parents of the following:

Extension of the Suspension for the Delivery of Ground-Based Courses

The suspension in the delivery of ground-based courses for the academic programs is hereby extended until the lifting of the measures taken by the government of the republic of Cyprus relating to the operation of Higher Educational Institutions.

Operation of Administrative and Academic Departments

The administrative and academic departments of the Cyprus Maritime Academy and Intercollege continue to operate normally from home and are executing their duties exclusively by telephone or electronically.

Measures regarding the Spring 2020 Semester

Online Courses: The online delivery of all non-laboratory, theoretical courses of the academic programs of the Cyprus Maritime Academy and Intercollege has already commenced through the use of the electronic learning platform of the College and will continue until the conclusion of the Spring 2020 Semester.

Easter Holidays: Because of some academic time that has been lost, the online delivery of the courses will continue until Wednesday 15/04/2020. There will be a break of 1 week for the Easter Holidays and online course delivery will recommence on Wednesday 22/04/2020 or Thursday 23/04/2020 according to each academic program. The faculty members of each program have already informed their students of their analytical course schedule during this period.

Mid-Term Exams: Mid-term exams will take place in the period 27/04/2020 to 08/05/2020, primarily with the use of the electronic learning platform of the College. The analytical schedule and requirements for the mid-term exams will be provided to students by faculty members of their respective programs.

Final Exams: The final exams, for the courses of the academic programs of the Cyprus Maritime Academy and Intercollege whose teaching is completed with the use of the electronic platform of the College, will take place in the period 08/06/2020 to 29/06/2020. The exams will utilize alternative assessment methods in alignment to the guidelines provided by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education and the Deputy Ministry of Shipping of the Republic of Cyprus. Faculty members will provide students with guidance on how to prepare, instructions on how the exams themselves will take place as well as analytical information regarding their schedule.

Completion of the Spring 2020 Semester – Theoretical Courses: For theoretical courses, the delivery of which is being continued online, the Spring 2020 Semester is expected to be concluded around the end of June 2020.

Completion of the Spring 2020 Semester – Laboratory Courses: The Cyprus Maritime Academy and Intercollege are continuing their efforts to identify methods for the online delivery of the courses whose teaching normally requires the use of dedicated external laboratories, equipment and materials. However, the final date of completion of the Spring 2020 Semester for laboratory courses will also depend on developments regarding the Pandemic as well as the lifting of the government measures regarding the operation of Higher Educational Institutions.

Graduation Ceremony: The graduation ceremony scheduled to take place at the end of June 2020 is postponed. The new date for the graduation ceremony will be announced at a future stage with the aim for the ceremony to take place, if possible, in September 2020.

Issuance of Award Titles (Degree) and Certificate of Competency: Students of the Cyprus Maritime Academy who successfully complete all the requirements of their study program will be able to submit an application to the academic affairs department of the College for the issuance of an award title (Degree) until 15/09/2020.  The award titles will be issued by the academic affairs department of the College during the month of October 2020. A certificate of completion of studies will be send to students electronically and, if circumstances allow it, the original Degrees will be collected personally by the students or will be send by post as necessary.

The procedure for the issuance of the certificates of competency for the final year students of the Academy will be announced at a later stage in coordination with the Deputy Ministry of Shipping of the Republic of Cyprus.

 

The Cyprus Maritime Academy and Intercollege encourage their students to stay in contact and promptly respond to communication with members of the faculty and to also diligently observe all announcements issued by the Academy and the College as well as by the program coordinators.
