IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
Completion of the Spring 2020 Semester – Final Exams

In line with the gradual lifting of the measures that were taken by the Republic of Cyprus to counter the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic, the Cyprus Maritime Academy/CyMA wishes to inform its Cadets and their parents of the following:

Completion of the Spring 2020 Semester – Final Exams

Online Courses: The delivery of all the theoretical courses of the academic programs of CyMA through the use of Intercollege’s e-learning platform is continuing normally and is expected to be concluded by the end of May 2020.

Laboratory Courses: The delivery of laboratory courses for the academic programs of CyMA will commence with the physical presence of students from Monday, 1st June 2020 and is expected to be completed by the end of the same month. Cadets will receive a detailed schedule for the delivery of their laboratory courses by administration officers of the Academy.

Final Exams Date: The final exams for all the courses of the academic programs of CyMA will take place with the physical presence of Cadets, in the period 01/06/2020 to 03/07/2020.

Final Exams Mode & Duration: The final exams will take place with the physical presence of Cadets at specially prepared lecture rooms and areas of Intercollege. The exams will take place separately in sections per each year and for each program and will have a maximum duration of 2-3 weeks depending on the specific program and year of studies.

Final Exams Schedule: The final exams schedule is connected to the completion of the laboratory classes of each program in order to ensure that all expected learning outcomes for each academic program are achieved. The cadets of CyMA will receive their detailed final exams schedule by administration officers of the Academy.

Protocols – Ηealth and Safety Measures: The laboratory courses and the final exams that will take place with the physical presence of Cadets will be governed by strict pandemic protocols as well as special health and safety measures that will be adopted and applied both by the Cadets but also by the academic and administrative staff of CyMA/Intercollege. Special provisions will be made for CyMA cadets that belong to the vulnerable groups of the  population. The protocols that will be adopted and the measures to be applied, will be advised in detail to the Cadets of the Academy by 25/05/2020.

Cadets Outside Cyprus: The small number of Cadets that are currently outside Cyprus will proceed with their exams online, where and as applicable, through the use of alternative assessment methods according to the guidelines provided by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education. Similarly, where and as applicable, the laboratory courses for the Cadets of the Academy that are currently outside Cyprus will take place with the physical presence of the said Cadets once their return  to the Academy is possible.

Operation of Administrative and Academic Departments

The administrative and academic departments of CyMA/Intercollege continue to operate normally and are executing their duties primarily from home. In view of the commencement of the delivery of laboratory courses and the conducting of the final exams with the physical presence of Cadets as explained above, selected members of the administrative and academic staff of CyMA/Intercollege are expected to return to the Academy/College and resume their duties from there as well.

Possibility of a renewed Pandemic Spread

In the scenario where from today 18/05/2020 and until 31/05/2020, there is an increased spread of the pandemic which results in the government applying again the restrictive measures to counter it, CyMA/Intercollege will immediately cease its ground-based operations and will move forward, where this is possible and as applicable, with the conclusion of the Spring semester via online teaching and by  conducting the final exams through the use of alternative assessment methods according to the guidelines provided by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education.

CyMA encourages its students to stay in contact and respond promptly to communications with members of the faculty and to also diligently observe all announcements issued by the Academy and its administrative officers.
