The Cyprus Maritime Academy/Intercollege had the honour of welcoming the General Secretary of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), Mr. Stephen Cotton, for an inspiring presentation on the ITF’s global mission to promote seafarers’ rights, welfare, and professional development. Mr. Cotton was accompanied by Mr. Charalambos Avgousti, General Secretary of the Federation of Transport, Petroleum and Agriculture Workers of the Cyprus Workers’ Confederation (FTPAW–SEK), and Mrs. Christiana Efstratiou, ITF Inspector.

During his address, Mr. Cotton shared valuable insights into the ITF’s international efforts to ensure fair working conditions, equality, and safety for maritime professionals worldwide. The presentation was followed by an engaging Q&A session, where cadets had the opportunity to discuss key issues affecting seafarers and learn more about the ITF’s role in supporting maritime careers.

At the conclusion of the event, FTPAW–SEK proudly awarded a full scholarship under the Cadet Scholarship Program to Mr. Konstantinos Petrou, a second-year deck cadet officer of the Cyprus Maritime Academy. The scholarship recognizes Mr. Petrou’s academic excellence, dedication, and promising future in the maritime profession.
